Oh, Marian

Oh Marian, so drab and dowdy. Can you imagine growing up with a sister like AL? Always filling up the room and swallowing you up with her magnetism and allure, being haughty and patronizing toward you and your ideas. You’d try to outsmart her, but it would never work. You’d try to get her to listen to convention and live according to societal standards, but she wouldn’t. Succumbing to her attempts to exasperate you, time and time again. Always being surpassed in intellect, adventure, travel, business/career, family admiration, and coal pit sinking. In the end tho, I do sense there was mutual respect and love amongst these two. •

Totally unrelated, but Marian’s stance here reminds me of when I’m in a playful mood, only my friend is upset or angry and wanting to vent. All I want to do is dance the macarena, share sex secrets, eat ice cream, and browse the online urban dictionary, but she wants to complain about the horrible service at Chili’s. When this happens do I typically a. Suppress my giddiness and listen like a good friend or b. Hold my breath & keep a serious face as long as possible until I can’t stand it anymore and burst out laughing at the most inappropriate time during her angry storytelling session? Clue: The answer rhymes with 🐝
